I listened to a recent online promo from a “Marketing Expert” claiming that SEO was a waste of time and that you shouldn’t bother trying to trick Google and the other search engines. That statement made me lose control of my mouth full of coffee and nearly caused a messy incident on my Mac keyboard.
Now, I don’t claim to be the world’s greatest SEO expert, just someone who works with websites every day and attempts to keep pace with the ever changing SEO and broader marketing landscape, but surely, we have all long since passed looking at SEO as ‘tricking the search engines’ and the thought of a “marketing expert” still thinking that this is what SEO is all about is quite staggering. Is it not more about making sure your website is the best it can be & providing the best user experience possible? And surely, applying good SEO principles can help deliver this?
It may seem like Google delivers us a new ranking factor every year and we all start looking at how this might affect whether our content climbs or falls down search engine results pages (SERPs), but I believe one thing is clear, at the core of Google’s algorithm changes is a simple goal: deliver what users want & provide the best user experience possible – which can only be a good thing.
